I Don't know if this is the right place to post this but here goes.
I am running windows messenger on a WinXP Pro machine. XP machine is on a
LAN and connects to the Internet via DSL modem router. Often I need to make
settings changes on router. This requires a restart of the router thereby
disconnecting the Internet connection. Router has automatic reconnect so
Internet connection is down for only 30 secs or so.
This is all fine and causes no real interruption of the network. All other
apps work fine after the router restart. However Messenger does not
reconnect by itself. It shows the status at the time of modem disconnection.
It gives no error messages, notifications of lost connections or attempt to
reconnect. Just stays at that status. When you go to change Messenger status
it shows you are not logged in and I need to log in and reconnect. It then
works fine again.
I find this a real pain since if modem is restarted Messenger loses
connection without any notification. Others see me as "Offline" and cannot
message me.
I wonder if there is a way to fix this. Perhaps registry hack or something
that can tell messenger to try to re-establish a connection if it detects a
lost Internet connection?
Suggestions appreciated.
