View Full Version : Messenger get disconnected constantly

I've read an earlier post about this exact same problem.

Ever since I upgraded from messenger 4.5 to 4.7/5.0. I'l
be able to sign in no problem, then sometime later during
the day when I try to message someone or read my e-mail,
it'll pop up a window and tell me my messenger is not
connected. And the messenger icon will change from green
to the one with the red X.

But this only happens when I try to use messenger, it'll
appear to be connected if I don't try to use it. Kind
frustrating since I don't know if I'm actually connected
or not.

Sorry about the long post, does anyone know how to solve
this problem? Or maybe have a mirror site for downloading
messenger 4.5? Thanks!

Greetings Liu,

Although realistically upgrading to a newer version shouldn't do this, I do have a copy of
the 4.5 installer if you'd like me to e-mail it to you, just say so.

Regardless here are some suggestions:
If you're using a third-party firewall (Sygate, ZoneAlarm, Norton, etc.) try uninstalling
them or set Messenger to "Permit All" or "Allow" type options in the firewall configuration.

If you're using a router, make sure you have the latest firmware from your router
manufacturer. As well, you might try setting your computers local IP into the routers DMZ
setting (see documentation on how to do this).

If you see the disconnection problem on a corporate network, the network may be timing out
your settings -- in this case, you might want to ask your system administrator to adjust the
corporate internet sharing solution/firewall (if possible).

Finally, this can also happen due to a lack of bandwidth. If you have Kazaa, WinMX, GNUtella
or some other file sharing-type application or something else that takes considerable amounts
of bandwidth, you may want to shut it down and see if that helps the situation (even if
you're using a high speed connection, these applications can use most of the resources of
your connection).

Thanks for the reply. I just sent you an e-mail. Could you
reply to that with msn 4.5 installer file?

could be my account running out of room.
Just deleted some stuff, it's not bigger than 1M is it?
Then might have to try a different account.

Hi Liu,

~800K, and it just came out again. If it was out of room, it would usually say that, it just
says "failed", weird.
