View Full Version : WinXP won't boot - stuck on black screen with "Loading Intel Boot Agent..."

I've installed XP twice now on a DELL PIII/533 256MB with NTFS 10G
drive. Everything loads fine, but after a couple of normal reboots it
refuses to startup again. BIOS is using latest update, it loads, black
screen with blinking cursor comes up, then says "Loading Intel Boot
Agent," and never gets past that. I can boot to floppies and get into
the Recovery Console. What can I do here? I've used this copy of XP on
other machines and it has worked wonderfully. I wonder if it's a
hardware problem, but the fact that it's loaded fine and works for a
bit, says everything is fine.

Suggestions are appreciated!

Hi,

Could be a hardware problem, I'd run a drive diagnostic on it to see if
there are any problems detected with the hard drive. You can get one of
these from the web site of the drive manufacturer.

From the Recovery Console, you might try running fixboot.
