I have an XP Pro system currently serving as a simple file server on our
simple network, that has a shared folder to store documents for everyone in
the office. My client workstations are Windows 98.

What I would like to do, is lock documents while they are opened from a
client machine, so that other users cannot edit them. I'd like this to be
done at least fairly autmatically, to reduce the employee training needed.

If it canot be done from the XP system, can it at least be done from my 98
system, so that they will be locked while I have them open?

Any suggestions?

Thank you very much!

Unshare the actual documents.

Those features are usually supported from the server tier via=20
check / source control systems. You might be able to find=20
something you could use on a workstation, but you will not=20
find this within the XP provided features.
