View Full Version : messenger6 - Same problem and temporary solution
Anthony
December 5th 03, 01:44 PM
I have the same problem in that it signs out immediately
saying I am signed in elsewhere.
The reason it does this for me is because messenger 4.7 is
still running somewhere in the background so I have to
open that up and sign out before messenger 6 can sign in.
It's fine as long as I don't open outlook express to make
a connection, as this automaticly runs messenger 4.7
Anyone know how to sever the ties between outlook express
and messenger so it doesn't interfere?
Or do you know wher microsoft are hiding away an installer
that will install new versions over the top of old
versions? I don't think it's the fault of it being a beta
version because I had the same problem before with another
earlier version install, which was a full version.

Open Outlook Express, select Tools -> Options and under the General tab,
uncheck the "Automatically sign in to Windows Messenger" box. Click Apply,
then Ok and your done.

Hope this helps,

** Remove the "_NOSPAM" tag in to contact me by email.

That was the first thing I did. Even with the box ticked
off, oe6 still call messenger 4.x. Which in turn causes
ver 6 to logout. Why has version 6 not replaced 4.7???

Greetings Anthony,
MSN Messenger 6 does not replace Windows Messenger 4.7 any more then Microsoft Office
replaces Microsoft Works (they are separate, different products).
You can however, stop Outlook Express from loading Windows Messenger. To do so, download and
run this .reg file:
http://messenger.jonathankay.com/downloads/stopmessenger_oe.reg
You'll need to restart Outlook Express to see the change.

Thank you. That's stopped the contact list coming up in
Outlook Express but hasn't stopped Outlook Express
triggering the sign in for version 4.7, so the problem
still remains.
I appreciate the help. Does anyone have any other ideas?

Hi Anthony,
Try closing the Contacts pane in Outlook Express. Click the View menu, then Layout, uncheck
Contacts and then click OK.

It will still coming out, so the only thing I can do is to hide the icon of Windows Messenger in System Tray in Windows XP.

I also want to ask why Windows Messenger will appear when I use Remote Assistance?
If I uninstalled Windows Messenger, I will not able to start Remote Assistance in MSN Messenger.

Managed to solve the problem. Finaly found the solution in
the Microsoft Knowledge base no:302089. This has stopped
messenger triggering and automaticaly signing in, so I can
run what I want, especialy OE6 and allow msn messenger to
automaticaly log in.
