View Full Version : UPnP and "Network Connections"

I've got an Alcatel SpeedTouch 510v4 router and two
computers running WindowsXP and 98. I have made all
possible things to enable audio and video messenger
communication, but it never worked.
One strange thing happens to me: "My network places"
shows me the SpeedTouch, and double-clicking opens the
router configuration web-based dialog. But "Network
connections" doesn't shows me the SpeedTouch as "Internet
Gateway Device", it only shows the NIC Fast Ethernet
Card...
Any suggestion? I've tried really lots of things, and
none worked.
Faithfully,
lucas

For your first question about AV in Windows Messenger: in Services, set
SSDP Discover Services to Automatic, same with Universal Plug and Play.
Now, I did this, but it might not be necessary: From Add/Remove
Programs, Windows Components, verify that you do have UPnP installed. In
XP Home, sometimes this is not installed, and it might be needed. I've
read here that it is/is not required, but it is quickly installed.
In your router setup, enable UPnP. One other confusion: only one of the
AV parties needs to issue the invitation. If both do, it will likely
fail. If your camera is working, you will see the small inset of
yourself no matter if the other camera is working.
Your network setup is like mine was before I downloaded an update, *I
think*, and then the Internet Gateway (my router) automagically
appeared. It was also coincident with my updating the firmware in my
router for XP, so that might have done it also.

Also, if your router is not specifically UPnP compatible, there is a
reference by "Ant" several messages earlier which provides info on which
ports to open manually.

Thank you very much Jim, but I have made all that things
and the "Internet Gateway" never appeared.
Of course the router is UPnP compatible and it is
enabled. I've tried without firewalling my router and my
computer, installing and uninstalling, rebooting... I'm
really frustrated.
Perhaps the router firmware needs an update, but I
haven't find one anywere. Perhaps that updates did the
magic... Can you tell me some reference about them? My
SpeedTouch firmware version is 4.0.2.0.0
Thank you again,
lucas

http://www.speedtouchdsl.com/support.htm but no firmware listed.
Perhaps your ISP has drivers and firmware?
