XP upgrade desktop display small not using full screen help

I recently upgraded my OS from Windows ME to XP. I am
working on a laptop. Since the upgrade my window only
uses about 3/4 of the screen. The display window has
about 1.25 inches around each side. I can not figure out
how to configure my screen to allow the window to use the
entire screen. Please help.
