update of windows messenger

I get a message everytime I log on to my windows
messenger telling me that there is a new upgrade. When I
go to do it my system has a problem downloading it...
It stops.... I already have windows messenger 4.77..
so is this upgrade something I need...

Have you tried going to Windows Update to see if the upgrade is available
for installation in the Windows Section?

If not then go to http://messenger.msn.com and download the Windows
Messenger there to ensure that you have the latest build revision.
