View Full Version : Audio/Video

I followed the advice in regards to eliminating
firewalls, making sure there are no firewalls on contacts
computers, installing all updates, checking the
audio/video wizard, updating drivers, etc that are listed
in the emails about audio/video problems over the last
few days.

The problem still exists- I receive audio and video from
others, but they cannot receive anything from me. What
can I do next for help? in resolving these problems?

I did install McAffee firewall service for a trial when I
got my computer, but it slowed down my system
excessively, so I removed it using their uninstall. I
can't see that it has any residual files on add/remove
programs. There is a product called boradjump client
foundation installed, but I don't know what that is, or
if it is related to other programs, so I don't want to
remove it. I don't see any other potential problem
programs.

I found the ICF in services.msc. It has nothing marked,
and says it is manually started, and has a local access
logon. The properties show it as stopped.

I'll check to see if they have a firewall, but I highly
doubt it. They wouldn't have purchased it, and I don't
think they are running off servers who require a firewall.

I will download the new updates, but it doesn't show a
need for any drivers.

If you come up with any other possibilities, please let
me know.

Thank you

How are you connected to the Internet? Are you using a router or such?
Need to explain your setup and system.

I'm connected through Comcast Cable Internet Access via
my home computer. There are no other computers networked
up at home. I am using Windows XP, and messenger 4.7
with all updates installed. I have a Labtec Axis 712
headset with a USB connector. There is no firewall that
I am aware of. If you could tell me how to verify that
no additional firewall has been installed I would
appreciate it, otherwise the problem remains a mystery.
Please help me out!!!

Ok, it would appear that the most probable cause is the XP built in
Firewall. Have you disabled this, it has to be in order for Windows
Messenger to work. Head sets are nice, but in most cases, such as with
NetMeeting the mic needs to be connected directly to the sound card. Try a
Mic plugged into the sound card and then run the Audio Tuning Wizard. Also,
visit www.meetingbywire.com and there are discussion on how to use
NetMeeting and Windows Messenger also how to disable the XP firewall.

I thought about the built in firewall. It is disabled.
There is no evidence of any firewall enabled on my
computer. I thought about the headset, but the PC cam
holds similar problems. Plus, the headset is detected
and running fine in the tuning wizard (as is the PC
cam). I went to the website suggested and didn't find
much more help. What else can I try?

cases, such as with
