View Full Version : No toolbars in MS Word
Neil E. Baird
December 24th 03, 03:31 PM
Hi all, I was wondering if anyone can tell me what might have caused the
toolbars to all disappear in Word? I just added some memory to a buddies
machine and all was well then a few minutes later Word no longer had any
tool bars or menus across the top and I don't know how to get them back as
there is nothing to right click on. Excel still works just fine and only
Word is acting up. I believe he has Word 2k on his win XP machine. Any help
would be greatly appreciated as to how to get the menus and toolbars back.
TIA, Neil
Kelly

Still no go. All I get is the ruler bar and thats it. Ive even uninstalled
and reinstalled Office on his machine. Excel works fine but no toolbars in
Word. I upped his ram from 128 meg to 512 and things were okay then some one
right clicked a document to print it then things went to hell. I am at my
witts end on this one.

Look in Tools - Customise - Toolbars. To get there press the menu access =
key - Alt + T, then C. Menus in word are not menus but are office =
toolbars that look like menus (even toolbars in Word aren't windows =
toolbars).
Word won't let you turn off the menu. So it may be off screen.
If the above isn't possible try this in Start - Run
winword /a
what happened.

There are no menus or toolbars pressing alt and any key at all has no affect
what so ever. this is most troubling. Is there a virus or worm out there
that could be doing this? I do thank you for your input.

Normal.dot was the first thing I deleted before I got lost and needed help.
I had his secretary follow the steps and sure enough it fixed it. Again,
thank you for the help.

It hasn't worked yet. We aren't finished. /a loads word without addins or
any saved settings.
D:\Documents and Settings\David Candy\Application Data\Microsoft\Template
D:\Documents and Settings\David Candy\Application
Data\Microsoft\Word\STARTUP
Rename any files found here one by one and restart word normally. When word
works you've found your guily template
It's probably normal.dot.
