How are you connecting the two computer together?
Crossover cable, Hub/Switch?

Assign a static IP address to each computer on the peer-to-
peer network. If you're not running a DHCP Server service
then you will need to assign a static IP address to each
network adapter. For instance you could assign an IP
address of 172.16.1.1 to one computer and use 172.16.1.2
for the other; however, do be sure you assign a non-
routable IP address to each adapter.
