Hi all,

Thanks for the tips. Unfortunately I don't seem to have installed 811493,
but I have got a little closer to finding out what's causing this!

I've found out that if I disconnect from my network, then everything opens
up normally. When I enable the network again, everything slows down!!

Any ideas? This one really has me stumped!

Original posting was as follows:

My WindowsXP Home has quite suddenly slowed down. Most notable when starting
applications. Programs that used to open in 1-2 seconds now take 5-6
seconds, and I have no idea why.

I have 512 MB of RAM on a 2.4 Gig system with a good 40+ Gigabytes of hard
drive space. I'm up to date with SP1 and critical fixes, and haven't
installed anything new. I've tried defragmenting, checking my system for
trojans and viruses, but everything seems fine.

I've tried disabling unwanted services, and disabling everything on startup
just to be sure. I've even disabled everything, closed all non-essential
services and shut down everything possible, but it's still slow.

I'm more than a little puzzled, and more than a little annoyed by how long
everything takes! I even ran Windows Repair out of desperation, but all I
got from that is the need to reinstall all the updates again...

Aside from the slowdown, everything seems to be fine.

Any suggestions would be massively appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Even more - I've found out that if I disable the Client for Microsoft
Networks, then everything is back up to full speed again. But then of course
I can't use my network!

Any ideas?
