I have Windows XP Home Edition (v. 5.1.2600) already
installed on my machine but also want to install
Microsoft Office 2000 Premium (upgrade).
The Office 2000 was never used or registered. I also
have the key codes and all other necessary documentation
for installation. My computer also meets and exeeds all
system requirements stated in the Office 2000 literature.
The Offiece 2000 literature also states that it will only
install if I'm licensed user of one of the
following, "Office Suites:...Microsoft Works...ect".
However, when I tried to install Office 2000 I got the
error message (#1608) "setup failed to locate a valid
qualifying product on your machine". I suppose the
problem occurs because my Office 2000 predates the
Windows XP registry of "product compliance".
I would surely appreciate any suggestions that would
help me to have both of these products installed at the
same time.

No, the problem is that you do not have a qualifying product for the Office
2000 upgrade. No version of Windows has ever been a qualifying product for
Office upgrade. Either you do not have a qualifying product installed or
the problem is that the application you are trying to use to qualify
postdates Office 2000.

If you do have a qualifying product that is not installed, you can insert
the media and browse to it when Office installer gives you the message that
a qualifying product was not found.
