See Edward's reply in this thread. I found the same
command line elsewhere in this forum last night and it
appears to have removed the program.

It seems to me that we are going backwards here. I should
be able to go to "Remove programs" in my control panel
and simply remove the program. Now we are back to dos
command lines to remove applications. This is
frustrating.

Also now that I have removed it, I have a new twist to
the story. I installed several "updates" in the quest for
a solution to the problem with Messenger. Now, I have to
select a user everytime I start up my pc. I am the only
account set up on it and none of my other XP machines
require me to select a user. What is with this? <sigh>
And this is progress???

Sorry support guys. I know you do the best you can with
what you have. But each incarnation of the Windows OS
becomes more and more difficult to control. Ultimately,
the user should have control over the OS... not the other
way around.
