Hello i just purchased Windows XP Pro and was wondering if
i could get some help. I play games alot and i needed to
upgrade my computer. I bought an new computer with an asus
motherboard 8x agp slot and it has an integraded 10/100
network card. I installed all of the drivers that came
with my computer and i got my new computer to go online
just fine. My problem is that windows is blocking any LAN
games or any attemps for any other computer to ping my new
one. I Have an Linksys router with a built in firewall and
i tried disabling it and it did nothing. I also called
Linksys and they tried to help me get it working for 1
hour but they couldn't get it either. The guy reccommended
asking microsoft. I don't think it is my router either
because i have 2 computers on it right now and i can play
games no problem. My other computers are running Windows
98 SE. I also tried it at my friends house and he has a
different router with a firewall and i couldn't play their
either. My old computer can play on his and my networks
fine. Please email me if you can help me out. ANY advice
is welcome. I am also considering purchasing a New
operating system if i can't get this working. Thank you
and hope to hear from you soon. Patrick Grube

Did you try to remove the router and connect directly to modem... the only
device that should block pings, is a firewall, either hardware, or
software.....

The thing is i don't want to just go through my modem i
want to be able to use a network so i can have several
computers on all at the same time. I have had no troubles
with my other computers and they are the same they just
run windows 98SE and are pentium 3 Gateways. If you say to
remove my firewall how can i do that in windows XP. i
tried but maybe i didn't get it completely off.

Are they using NetBeui? This is not available by default on XP.
It is contained in the Valueadded folder on the CD. See this link.
