View Full Version : XP won't wake from hibernate

I can't get Windows XP to come back from Hibernate.
Nothing, apart from XP home edition, is running and the only way I can get
anything to happen is to start the computer normally via the on/off button.

Shouldn't it start from the "Wake" key on the keyboard ?

Thanks for any help, Boozo.

Hibernate means the computer saves it's current state, including any open
applications etc., to the hard drive, and then shuts right off. The power
button is the only way to restart, as the machine is in the same state as if
you had switched it off. On powering up again it will read the hibernate
data file and restore everything to the state it was in when it went into
hibernation. Standby, on the other hand, holds it all in memory, and just
drops to the barest condition that will maintain that. That should wake up,
as you put it, but remember hibernation is a complete switch off. Hope this
helps.
