I am presently using Windows Messenger 4.7 for Windows
XP. My niece, on the other hand is using MSN Messenger
5.0. She is able to diplay her name is some fancy
characters which I cannot view on my Windows Messenger.
All I can see is a bunch of numbers & funny characters
which is very irritating. Even when we chat online,
sometimes she will type those characters, & to me, they
are just rubbish that doesn't make sense. I tried to
download MSN Messenger 5.0 to try if I can use it but it
turns out that I have both messengers running at the same
time and even then, I still can't view her name in
legible character. Really frustrating..please help!
THANKS!!

Greetings Amanda,

This could be one of two things. Firstly, she may have Messenger Plus installed, and is
using Messenger Plus color codes, etc. in her name. You can install Messenger Plus to see
these:
http://www.msgplus.net
Note: if you do install Messenger Plus, note the "sponsor program" option in the installer
(if you choose to leave it on, it will add an advertising window to Internet Explorer).

Secondly, she might be using Unicode characters (from different languages) that you can't
see. To see this, click Start, then Control Panel, then Date, Time, Language, and Regional
Options, then Regional and Language Options, click the Languages tab, check the two
checkboxes under Supplemental languages support and then click OK.
