cant restore items in the recycle bin

something very important was deleted by accident.
its in the bin. I know this because when i click to empty
the bin i get the prompt do you wish to delete these
items.
However there is nothing showing in the bin and they wont
restore either?
I have sent other dummie files in to see how they behave
and they are hidden also, but the hide files option is
off..please help its all my work thats lost!

ive tried recovery software...the problem is the files
havent been deleted they are just sat in the bin, and
wont move
