Hello! Pardon me if this question has been asked before,
and please link the response if it has. =)

I get repeated (10+ times per day) unsolicited spam
messages in Windows Messenger (not the pop-ups, but with
the actual Windows Messenger v4.7), all with advertising
or porn links. Is there any way for me to stop this?

I have my hotmail security set on the highest it will
go. I'd like to set it to not receive any messages at
all from someone not on my contact list, but apparently
that isn't possible.

Being female, it's quite annoying and offensive to
repeatedly receive messages from "young ladies" promoting
pictures of "themselves" - this is so frustrating and
constantly interrupts my studies on my computer, but I
like to stay signed in to keep in touch with friends and
family.

Thanks for any help possible.

Greetings,

There has been an upsurge in some Messenger (that is .NET Messenger) spam this past month.
This conversation did go through the Messenger server, but you may not be aware that anyone
can actually send you a message through the .NET Messenger network without being on your
contact list. For example, if you right-click your Messenger icon, choose "Send an Instant
Message", the Other tab, you can actually type in a Passport e-mail address and send a
message to them, without being on their contact list.

However, you can change this behavior, so that people will have to add your to their contact
lists before they can send you a message, open up the main Messenger window, click Tools,
then Options, then the Privacy tab, click 'All other users' (or 'All users' in MSN Messenger
5) and then click the Block >> button.

I think that this should be activated as default, that
only people in your contact list can msg you, would save
alot of hassle.

Hi John,

Actually the latest releases of MSN Messenger 5 do in fact have this on by default.
