Inability of Windows media player to play certain VCD

I was trying to play a VCD on media player and it failed.
The system simply hanged till i forced out the CD. But on
using the Xing MPG player, the movie works fine.
What could be wrong?

its probably due to the codecs that are installed within that player. do you
have any dvd software installed on your system? that would be the most
likley cause of the problem i would suggest to get your self a copy of some
dvd software and install it that way the codecs are installed within windows
and the media player will be able to play the file
