View Full Version : Connecting to Messenger

I just updated windows messenger for XP to V. 4.7 and now
I can't connect to the service. I type in my email and
password and connect, but messenger just sits there
saying "Signing In". I do not have a firewall and I am
the administrator for the computer. I also checked to
see if I can log into my passport via hotmail and that
works fine. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Greetings David,

What about if you try using another account (or make a new one at
http://register.passport.net or http://hotmail.com). If you're able to sign in using another
account, then there just may be something wrong with your account (that may be fixable).

As well, you can use System Restore to go back to the previous version, to do so, click
Start, Help & Support, 'Undo changes to my computer using System Restore' and then restore
back to before you installed the latest version.

Also, are you trying to connect on a corporate network?

Thanks for the reply Jonathan. I tried to log in using a
different account and that doesn't work either. I also
tried to restore to an earlier setting and recieved a
message that nothing has changed. (I went back to May 1,
2003 prior to the windows messenger upgrade) Actually
the windows messenger upgrade was recorded in the restore
settings. Is this because it is integral to XP? I am on
a work network as I said with no firewall. I'm confused
since I was able to use windows messenger on this network
prior to the upgrade. Any other suggestions?

Thanks
