View Full Version : How to Prevent Windows Messenger from Running On XP

I understand that Outlook Express and Remote assistance
in XP use APIs that depend on Windows Messenger. If I
edit the registry to prevent Windows Messenger from
running at Startup this prevents Outlook Express from
using Windows Messenger. Would that be harmful to
Outlook Express? I want to prevent Windows Messenger 4.7
from opening when I open Outlook Express. Also, I want
to get MSN Messenger and use that service but keep
4.7.

Greetings John,

After you disable Windows Messenger from running (or otherwise just want to stop Windows
Messenger from running with Outlook Express), close Outlook Express, then download and run
this .reg file:
