View Full Version : Saving binaries from newsgroups to folders

I just downloaded the latest updates to XP.

Naturally this has screwed up my computer.

Formerly - like a half-hour ago - when I wanted to save a binary file (jpeg,
wav, etc.) from a Usenet group I clicked the little paperclip on the right
and a window appeared showing which folder the system was going to put it in
unless I changed it. The default apparently is "My Documents." When I
picked a different folder, the system would remember it so I could download
multiple files without having to go thru the damn tree for ever single save.

Now - since I've downloaded the "update" - when I'm on
alt.binaries.pictures.celebrities and there are a half-dozen individual
posts with images of Jennifer Love Hewitt, I have to go through the tree to
the same other-than-My-Documents-folder every stinking time.

How do I undo what this "update" has wrought?

I swear, I should know better by now than to download "updates" when my
system is functioning to my satisfaction.

Look in Control Panel|ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS
If no joy, look in Windows Explorer, under the c:\windows\ directory
(folder) for a $uninstall file (probably displayed in blue letters).

That didn't do it.

Is there a switch somewhere that controls that function?

Okay, I just kept removing "updates" until it did what it used to do.

Thanks for the help!
