Email Notification for Messenger

I have Windows XP. I want to be notified when I receive
and email. I am notified when my contacts sign on but
not when I receive an email. I downloaded an add-in for
Windows XP, but I still do not receive the notification.
I am wondering what I should try next. Can anyone help?

The e-mail option will only work if you're using an active Hotmail.com/MSN.com passport. If
you are using a Hotmail.com/MSN.com Passport, you can check that it is active by going to
http://www.hotmail.com, logging in and trying to get to the Inbox. If your account isn't
active, you'll be given a chance to reactivate it. If you did need to reactivate it, you'll
need to sign out and back in to Messenger to see the e-mail notifications.
