Part 1 of problem with windows xp

I am getting a error message, "Code 10" when I look at the "USB Mass Storage
Device Properties Sheet" in the device manager. I used the windowsxp
troubleshooter which says to first uninstall then reintall the drivers then
unattach and then reattach all things connected to any USB device,
ie, mouse, printer and keyboard. After I did this it still does not work.

It was working properly until I did a complete restore of my machine.
(beware of online services)
I checked the windowsxp update page which checks to see if I have the newest
drivers and critical updates. I do have the newest update for this driver.

..Any suggestions on how to fix and why this happened ?

Should I uninstall then reinstall Macafee Virusscan and Firewall and my
printer software,which was suggested to me by another techie, ?

Does this have any relation to the fact that my computer hangs when I have
to go open up a file or save a file
