I have been to a few sites that suggest I change my mtu settings from 1400
to 1500 to make things faster? I have DSL.
Is there an easy way to do this without downloading a progrram. I remember
in windows 98 or 95 that you could go into a setting and change this.
Is this possible in Windows XP home edition?

Thanks Bruce

I understand you do not want to download any program to help in setting MTU, but if you were to use Registry Robot from PC Mag utilities, it helps with setting this and several other items that help with high speed settings.
it works similar to TweakUI but with more settings.

you can get an alphabetical listings of PC Mag utils here

The best way of doing this if your in the UK is to download the MTU Adjustment
tool from BT. This is a 45k download and will only change you MTU settings
To quote BT
"
BT Wholesale believes that the optimum MTU setting is 1458 as this is

best suited to the performance of the broadband network. End Users may

see an improvement in performance for some applications such as web

browsing, FTP and peer-to-peer if they change their network setting to this

level. "
