Is winxp SP1 still a recommended update?

I've formatted my computer and installed everything from
skretch. To my surprise when I went to the windows update
page, SP1 was not listed there. I wonder if I still need
the service pack or just go with the latest updates.

Is it possible you now have an XP cd that contains SP1 in it?

Right click on My Computer, then click on properties. See if it says Service
Pack 1 below Windows XP. If so, then your set. If not, and windows update
does not offer it to you, search for the network download, download the
whole thing and install from your hard drive.
