View Full Version : Netgear DG814 and File Transfer (Messenger)
Steve
December 5th 03, 01:53 PM
I am having some difficulties with using MSN since getting my DG814.
First of all I noticed that I was unable to use Remote Assistance,
which I have since fixed by upgrading the firmware version to 4.7 RC1
with UPnP support, great! Now I have noticed that file transfers won't
work. I have scanned through the newsgroups and the only fix that I
have found (which doesn't work) is to enable port forwarding for
6891-6990 for 127.0.0.1. is there anything else that I should be
doing? I was also thinking about getting a webcam but have concerns
that it will not work through MSN.
Thanks in advance
Steve

Greetings Steve,
Are you using Windows Messenger? If so, you'll need to use MSN Messenger 5, which is
currently the only Messenger that has support for UPnP file transfer, you can find it here:
http://messenger.msn.com/download/download.asp?client=1.

Jonathan, what about Windows XP Messenger version 4.7 (2009)? Does that do
file transfer ok through a UPnP router. I am also keen to know if video and
audio work properly with this version.
Cheers Jonathan

Hi Jon,
No, 4.x version of either MSN or Windows Messenger supports UPnP file transfer -- it was a
new feature added in MSN Messenger 5.
Voice/video does use UPnP however in all 4.x and 5.x versions.

Replace 127.0.0.1 with the LAN ip of the pc youre running messenger on.

Basically if you find out what ports it uses and forward them all to your
lan PC ip address ( 192.168.0.2 or whatever, use ipconfig to find it out) it
should work.
Cant give any more info than that as i hate MSN and use icq :)

OK, strange thing... I asked my sister to transfer a file to me as a
test because she also has a Netgear SDG814, and it worked fine!!! She
has 4.7 RC1 firmware which I installed on both of ours to get UPnP
working, but that's about she has done to it out of the box...
AAARRRGGGHHH!!!
