When I start my computer, it acts like it is going to
start, then shuts off, restarts, shuts off. After awhile it
stays on. I'm afraid that one of these times it won't stay
on at all. I tried to do a restore, and I can't even do
that. Does anyone have any ideas of what my problem could
be? Any advice would be MUCH appreciated. This is very
frustrating!! Thank you, Janice Suhr

Sounds like you've got some software or hardware conflict that needs
resolving. XP, by default, has the computer restart after a system
failure. To disable this, right click on MY COMPUTER icon. Select
PROPERTIES, and when the System Properties box comes up, select the
ADVANCED tab. Then look for the Startup and Recovery section and click
the SETTINGS button. In the Startup and Recovery box, look for the
System Failure area. Uncheck the AUTOMATICALLY RESTART box and click OK
and OK all the way out. Now when you start, the system won't restart
when a system failure occurs. Your next step will be to track down why
you have a conflict that's causing a failure. Good luck. I've just gone
through all this and I feel your pain. Still don't know what was causing
mine. I ended up doing a reformat and a total reinstall of everything.
Now it works.
