View Full Version : A weird problem with Messenger Plus
Lenny

Hi,
I know Messenger Plus is not an official MSN product, but I'd still like to
ask my question here.
A few days ago, I installed Messenger Plus on my PC. I used a file taking
from the page that a friend forwarded to me (the link that you can send to
chat partners by means of the button Share once you have Messenger Plus). I
had no problems whatsoever. AdAware didn't detect spyware, no unwanted sites
were added to Favourites, I could use the sounds etc.
However, when I installed Messenger Plus on the PC of someone else in my
house, using again the link that you get through the button Share, something
went completely wrong: during installation of Messenger Plus, several short
cuts to porn sites were added on the desktop. On top of that, the Favourites
of IE were filled with links to porn, gambling and other questionable sites.
When I tried to use the features of Messenger Plus, they didn't work, or at
least not on my end: the sound effects were only heard by the chat partner
and not by myself (sound was definitely on!).
As I had read somewhere that there are "fake" Messenger Plus versions going
around, I deinstalled the Messenger Plus, removed spyware and unwanted short
cuts and tried to reinstall several times, but always with the same result.
The last time I tried, I actually read in the license agreement of the
installer file that short cuts to porn and gambling sites would be added ...
Did Messenger Plus really add all these features to their installer files in
the day that passed between installing it on my PC and the other PC?
Any help would be appreciated,
Thanks in advance,
Lenny

Greetings Lenny,
This is the new "sponsorship program". Uninstall Messenger Plus, and then reinstall it,
except this time, uncheck the "sponsor program" when you install it.

Hi,
I didn't get any possibility to check or uncheck a "sponsor program".

Hi Lenny,
During installation, you'll see this:
http://messenger.jonathankay.com/screens/msgplus.gif
Simply make sure that the 'I accept the agreement' is unchecked, then click 'Install
Messenger Plus!'
