This is a repost of a previous question that I expected
Jonathan to reply to and didn't. I allowed Windows
Messenger to upgrade to version 4.7. Now when I click on
it to close, it doesn't close, it continues to run in the
background even though I've unchecked that option. I keep
finding it running in the task manager after I close it. I
don't what it running in the background. How do I fix this
without doing a system restore?

Greetings Michael,

Do you have Norton Antivirus 2003 installed? Norton added a new "instant messaging scanning"
feature to Norton Antivirus 2003, which can conflict with Messenger and cause this behavior.
To stop it, open Norton Antivirus (Right-click on the Norton Antivirus icon in the System
Tray/Notification Area (by the clock), choose 'Open Norton Antivirus'), click Options, then
Instant Messenger then uncheck MSN Instant Messenger and click OK.

Thanks for the quick reply. Yes, I do have Norton's AV
2003 installed. I'll uncheck that feature right away. I'm
a computer tech and only use windows messenger to do
remote assistance with so when I close it, I do want it to
close and not run in the back ground. Thanks again.
