I recently bought a new copy of windows xp pro which cost
me a fair bit of money, when i told someone in work about
this they told me i should of just have bought a pirate
copy of xp, he didnt seem to think that a pirate copy
would act differently to a proper copy, but then he would
say that.

Can anyone tell me if it does act differently and if not
why doesnt everybody do it?

Find a friend who thinks honestly! Would your friend also steal
a car because he doesn't want to pay for one? You don't need
the bad advice your "friend" offers.

I could be wrong here, but I believe Microsoft detects the pirated
copies when you update, I've heard this about the Office products, and
once updated, the Office products will not open.

Why doesn't everybody do it? Because most people try to do the right thing
and be honest. But there are always a few people around who seem to enjoy
screwing up things for everyone, like your "friend" at work.

I bought a copy of WinXP and have installed it on 2 computers. My second
computer came with XP installed on it but with no back up disk so when it
crashed and I put in a new hard-drive, I used my bought disk to re-install
XP on it. Am I using my paid for copy illegally?

Hi Kevin,

Many of the pirated copies out there are blocked from updating to SP1 =
and beyond, as Microsoft is fully aware of the copies. Save yourself the =
aggravation and just stick with a legitimate one.

Greetings --

If you didn't buy a second retail license, then, yes, you're in
violation of the EULA. Why didn't you reinstall the legitimate OEM
version?
