Approximately five days ago my Dell Dimension 4300 developed a problem
which is displayed every time I attempt to boot up the system.
Everything seems to go along normally (Dell logo screen-WindowsXP logo
screen-welcome-desk top) until the desk top screen is displayed at
which time the screen goes blank and the entire boot-up sequence
starts. After three cycles of this, I get a message telling me my
computer has just recovered from a serious error. The error report
includes mention of a C:\Windows\Minidump file and a temp file in one
of the Documents folders. I sent all the information to the Dell Help
& Support site and from their response, I feel they don't really know
what is wrong but they did suggest a repair reinstallation of
WindowsXP. If possible, I would prefer to avoid this hassle and learn
what is wrong. If anyone can offer some assistance with this, I will
be most grateful, indeed. Thank you for your consideration of this
request.

Hi Bruce...
Have you run through this trouble shooting sequence:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;317277
I understand this happens when you first Boot...
But when "the screen goes blank and the entire boot-up sequence
starts"...I would consider that a Restart...hope you can
get that far.
