View Full Version : Motherboard Problems

Well, I posted a while back about trouble I was having with setting up a new
motherboard. I took everyone's advice, and still no good. Here is the
exact message:
Windows can not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
\windows\system32\config\system
I browsed to the file, and it is there, but I'm unsure of it's validity.
The error message continues to tell me an repair installation will resolve
the problem. I pop the WinXP Pro CD into my drive, boot from it, and
then..... another error message. This one reads:
Line 1112 of the INF files \i386\txtsetup.sif is invalid. Setup can not
continue. Press any key
Well, isn't that just great? Any more suggestions?

Boot an ME boot disk, remove all partitions and create a new partition.
Format the drive fat32. Then boot the XP cd and install.
Don't try to use your old harddrive operating system with a new motherboard
and processor. It fails to work most of the time.

Let me get this right. Boot with an ME Boot Disk? I don't have ME or 98.
XP is the only OS I currently have.... so I guess I could borrow 98 or ME
from a friend and do it that way.
One last question.. when I reinstall XP, will it be OK to format NTFS?
Thanks,

Try cleaning the CD. Sometimes finger smudges or other marks on the data
surface of the CD will cause errors in the reading of the contents.
Wash it gently with warm water and then wipe dry with a clean soft cloth.
Make sure you handle the CD by the edges and/or center hole only. Check
the cleanliness of the data surface by looking at the reflections on the
surface. Any smudges or marks will show clearly as you tilt the CD.
Good luck

Go to http://www.bootdisk.com/ and download bootme.exe to create a WindowsME
boot disk.

Go to http://www.bootdisk.com/ and download bootme.exe to create a Windows
ME boot disk. Don't change to NTFS unless you are running a secure server.
NTFS just causes a lot of unnecessary overhead for you.
