Good Day
I'm sure that you must be getting tired of hearing from
me. I'm trying to establish audio/visual through Windows
Messenger. He is behind a LinkSys BEFW11S4 Ver 2 router
with the latest firmware using a LinkSys wireless
ethernet card. I am plugged directly into the modem.
UnPP is enabled on both computers, and in his router.
Internet Gateway Device Discovery and Control Client is
enabled on both computers. Yet, Audio doesn't connect,
let alone video. I contacted LinkSys, and they told me
that the firmware does not yet support Windows or MSN
audio/visual. They told me that Windows Messenger uses
H.23 and that the firmware does not yet support this.
They said that they are working on it. I was quite
persistent that there were several locations that told me
that it does work. This site, and, in particular, there
was an article poted by, I believe Microsoft, where a
woman talked about how great it all worked, and that she
used it for teleconferencing at her business. The tech
checked the database 3 times, talked to his supervisor,
and confirmed that it doesn't work. Have I got this all
wrong? Am I missing something?

I use LINKSYS , cable modem and XP Windows Messenger ... you need to pin
hole your router to open the required ports.
Under forwarding:
5004 - 65535 opened as TCP and UDP
I use Zone Alarm to give some additional protection when the router is
opened. Set to Medium Secure
May also try puting your computer Ip Address in the DMZ if you use Zone
Alarm. Never open without some form of firewall ...
Most important ... Good Luck

Instructions are in your manual and on there web. You only need to log on to
the router using internet explorer.
