Same exact problem for me with WinXP Home. Existing WinXP
version is from last fall, so I know there are plenty
updates available including SP1!

I just tried login into PC's Administrator account and running Windows
Update and it was fine. Must be something with permissions on my user
account. Might be something to look at. If I find an answer I will update
newsgroup.

Charlie, could you tell me specifically how you got to
that area to run Windows Update? I realize that WinXP
Home could be different than XP Pro, but it's difficult
to maneuver around all the settings unless you know how
to get there.

Thanks, Bob.

I am a local administrator as well. Not sure why the actual Administrator
account can run Windows Update and Administrator Group member can't.

connected on a wireless at home. I have been able to
update on the pc before but I just recently had to re
image my hard drive and now I have not been able to
update my PC or about the last two days. I don't know
what is going on
