Hello,
I really hope someone can help me with my problem. I am using messenger
on two computers on a network in my house. Recently I bought a wireless
router by Linksys. Since installing it I have this problem: few minutes
after logging into messenger, it shows me as if I'm online, but no one can
really see me on. If I click on the status button, it says I have to re-log
into messenger. I know this topic I SHOULD forward to Linksys, which I did,
but didn't get a reply yet. Does anybody know what it is?
Thanks

I use LINKSYS , cable modem and XP Windows Messenger ... you need to pin
hole your router to open the required ports.
Under forwarding:
5004 - 65535 opened as TCP and UDP
I use Zone Alarm to give some additional protection when the router is
opened. Set to Medium Secure
May also try puting your computer Ip Address in the DMZ if you use Zone
Alarm. Never open without some form of firewall ...
Most important ... Good Luck

Thats not really a practical solution. The linksys befws114 and the g
version support upnp. While they are buggy, they will allow mutiple
computers to connect messenger without logging off or opening so many ports.
I suspect the problem here is more a connection problem between router and
wireless nic. Do you have any cordless phones in the house, I would force
channel 1 on the wap since this is normally the strongest connection.
Further more encryption should be used. Also update to the latest firmware
like 1.45.
