View Full Version : Delay in chat / conversation window

Kevin Smallwood
December 5th 03, 01:59 PM
Thank you to everyone who contributed to helping me solve
this (that means I am patting myself on the back) ;-)

Issue : Double click a contact. The "Conversation" window
opens. Then, there is a 3 second delay before I can begin
typing in the conversation window.

Cause : (as best I can tell) DirectX 9

Solution : Performed a system restore to the day before I
installed DX9 and now Messenger opens and chats with no
pause.

Enjoy.

Kevin

Greetings Kevin,

I did reply to you actually -- the server seems to be having some difficulties (at least half
my posts are my missing anyway) -- DirectX 9 had this problem, but it was fixed in DirectX 9a
(you might want to install it, just in case a game in the future tries to install the old
version, with this version installed, it won't install the older one):

Ok, here's an update. When I logged in to Windows and
Messenger this morning, messenger told me there was an
update available (I am running 4.7.0105). I installed it
and the DELAY CAME BACK! I ran system restore, went back
to yesterdays "good" profile and the delay vanished.

Good Grief!

:-)

I'm back on DirectX 8. It was such a beating to have DX9
that I didn't want to take a chance on 9a. I'll make a
complete GHOST of my pc, then try 9a and see if I can
go "pauseless". I sure hope so.

Jonathan,

You bet. On a side note - what a complete and total
beating you take on this forum. There are really about 5
total topics. Making voice work, making file xfers work,
stopping pop ups, differences between 'flavors' of
messenger, and how to uninstall. If people would read your
replies to other similar posts before slathering their
problems all over this forum, you'd only have about 10
legitimate messages on here. You have my sympathy.

:-)

Hi Kevin,

Well there's a few others, it's taken years to come up with some of the replies I have
however, and the issues get more and more complicated (different firmware releases come out,
other applications use Messenger's functionality, etc.).

It's fun though =).
