Ill try to be short with this question. I am currently
using window xp OS with Norton AntiVirus 2002 Version
8.07.17c. I am trying to get rid of the "Email
protections was unable to start because TCP/IP is not
installed-please check your network settings" error
message. I was backing up my System State Folder and I
received this message "Backup Status
Operation: Backup
Active backup destination: File
Media name: "Backup.bkf created 5/16/2003 at 8:59 AM"

Error returned while creating the volume shadow
copy:80042306
Reverting to non-shadow copy backup mode.
Backup of "System State"
Backup set #1 on media #1
Backup description: "Set created 5/16/2003 at 8:59 AM"
Media name: "Backup.bkf created 5/16/2003 at 8:59 AM"

Backup Type: Copy

Backup started on 5/16/2003 at 8:59 AM.
Backup completed on 5/16/2003 at 9:01 AM.
Directories: 137
Files: 2022
Bytes: 355,308,194
Time: 2 minutes and 7 seconds"

Is this backup data corrupted or is it ok to use?

Thanks for your help

Matt

Hi Matt,

First of all, your backup data should not corrupted when you get the
error below. (Reverting to non-shadow copy backup mode.).

BTW, I am interested about any VSS-related errors in the Application
Event Log (VSS is the Volume Shadow Copy service that helps NTBackup
to get a consistent image of the file system at the time of backup).
In the event log you might find more info on the error below.

Thanks, Adi

P.S. Backup/Shadow Copy/VSS questions are better answered on
microsoft.public.win2000.file_system
