I have WinXP PRO and have autoupdate activated, so i
figure i have all the updates (as of 5/16/03). I use a
Dial-Up modem connection for accessing the Internet. When
i disconnect and re connect, the internet (Email/
Explorer/ etc.) cant detect connection. For example, the
Explorer gives me the "not found" error as if I were not
connected, but the dial up connection IS connected and
the status icon is active. I then restart the PC and
everything comes back to normal. This situation is
erratic, since sometimes it happens and sometimes it
doesn't. I have a Gateway 700 i bought in Nov/2001 and
the problem is there since day 1. Any help?

When you get the 'not found' can you change to another URL and then back to
the one that gave you the 'not found'? Could it be a temporary
error-transmission?

I have the same problem. I have to live with rebooting the PC when this
happens and just being thankful that XP boots a lot quicker that 98 or Me.

It seems to be related to switching users for me - if two users try to
access the dialer, then it won't work for either of them. The easiest way is
to make sure each user logs off properly when finished. Otherwise some of
the software may try making a connection (Outlook Express, Bigfix and
software that automatically tries to update itself are the main problems
here).
