hard drive stuck in pio mode

xp home as "owner
noticed that my hard drive in device manager is stuck in
pio mode (yes it supports dma etc.)
i have ablity to choose dma if available but it doesn't
change?

how can i force xp to do so?
btw its my OS drive so i can't r and r it.
