3) What exactly happened leading up to the problem
My problem is with MSN Messenger Version 5.0 (5.0.0544),
I downloaded the Windows XP version specifically.
I don't know if this is exactly the right place to get
help with this, but I would really appreciate any help.
Basically I will be on MSN Messenger and it disconnects.
On my MSN Messenger, it appears that I am still online or
away or on whatever status setting I have it set on,
while the people I am talking too say "Hey it says your
are offline". Often I will think I'm online and try and
change my status, and it says "Your Status could not be
change, Please try again later" then I have to sign in
again.
Sometimes I will be talking to someone, I'll send afew
messages and it says something like "The following
messages could not be deliever, please try again later"
and I am disconnected back to the Sign In screen and only
moments before I was talking to them without problems.
Also I sometimes can be talking to someone, and it says
I'm offline on their end but I am still talking to them.
It does this very often, I've never timed it, but
anywhere from 5 minutes-60 minutes after I reconnect.
4) Exact error messages
Often its, "The following message(s) could not be
delivered"
"Your Status could not be change, Please try again later"
5) Any antivirus, firewall software you are running
-Zone Alarm, Version 3.7.159 (Truevector security Version
3.7.159, Driver version 3.7.159)
-Norton Antivirus, Version 8.07.17C
I'm begging anyone out there that might have a solution
to help, its getting really anyone.. I had this problem
months ago and it went away, and now its back. Other
programs like ICQ work without problems, same with online
games, downloads etc..
Thanks for any help.

Greetings Travis,
Here are some suggestions that may help:
Since you're using ZoneAlarm, try putting it into the "Medium" setting and then see if the
problem disappears.
If you're using a router, make sure you have the latest firmware from your router
manufacturer. As well, you might try setting your computers local IP into the routers DMZ
setting (see documentation on how to do this).
Finally, this can also happen due to a lack of bandwidth. If you have Kazaa, WinMX, GNUtella
or some other file sharing-type application or something else that takes considerable amounts
of bandwidth, you may want to shut it down and see if that helps the situation (even if
you're using a high speed connection, these applications can use most of the resources of
your connection).

Thanks for the info John.
I checked and my Zonealarm it is already set on "Medium".
How can I find the name of my router ? is firmware
basically a "driver" for a router ?
Would I have to install the firmware on the other
computer that shares the same Cable service in my house ?
I use to not have these problems with Messenger, I had it
for awhile when I first downloaded the program, but then
it went away for months, and just recently it came back.
It is confusing.
As for having too many bandwidth using programs open, I
rarely use kazaa or even have it program open (I close it
on the Taskbar as well) I will sometimes have ICQ,
Internet Explorer open.. but that's about it.
P.S. Has a date been set for the public release of MSN
6.0 ? if so, when and should I expect it to fix these
problems.

Hi Travis,
Sort of. Firmware is basically the software that "runs" a device, whereas a driver is
software that "communicates" with a device. Since firmware is what's actually in the device,
and really has nothing to do with the PC, once it's updated from one PC, you don't need to do
it on any others.
The name of your router, and model number should be on the router somewhere (look at the
bottom).
The media has been pushing release dates, but all I can tell you publicly is that it will be
"soon, very soon".
