I have a toshiba 5105-s607 with xp pro installed. After
recently updating the driver called "Toshiba Hdc Driver
Version 1.01.01.0130" from the Windows Update page I can
no longer use the Intel Application Accelerator to change
the Advanced Power Management setting on the hard drive.
I do this to get rid of the constant hard drive clicking
which is for "minimum power consumption without standby"
but gets very annoying. How can I uninstall this update
or at least find out what it changed on my system?
Searching the Windows support web site for info on this
update turns up nothing.
Thanks,
Bob
New to XP Pro and struggling.

I don't know if this helps, but I saw some power management updates to work
with XP over at Toshiba when I was checking stuff out to update my Toshiba
laptop. Have you checked for an XP power management update at toshiba.com?

The latest power management update I see on the Toshiba
site was released 03-04-2002 which I already have. I
also don't see anywhere in the utility the option to
change the Advanced Power Management on the IDE
controller. If I'm missing something and you have the
option on your Toshiba laptop in the Toshiba utility
please let me know.
Thanks,
Bob

Bob,
You can uninstall this Toshiba driver by using the « Sytem Restore »
of Windows XP. If you have this option activated then you come
back with this.
The second possibility (I used this one) is to go to Device Manager select
IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers, Toshiba PCI-0804 Smart Media Host Controller,
driver, and choose « Roll Back Driver ».
Then i could re-install IAA and quite the HDD.
Did you find a power managment tool which can do the same job as IAA ?
I did not find anything, i wrote a msg to Toshiba support but i never
get an answer !!
Sorry to send you this note directly, with my poor english as i am
swiss-french.
Regards.
