I am running XP SP1, after updating Windows Messenger from
4.6 to 4.7 2009 it will connect and then disconncet after
a few seconds. With a completely different computer
running on the same network with version 4.6 it does not
disconncet. I also tried installed MSN Messenger 5.0 and
it does the same thing. Are there any know issues with
version 4.7 and XP SP1? Any assitance will be greatly
appreciated.

Greetings Jorge,

There is no specific problem with this on 4.7 and XP. If you go back to 4.6 (you can do so
by using System Restore -- click Start, then Help & Support, then "Undo changes to my
computer using System Restore" and go restore your PC back to before when you installed the
4.7 update), does the problem go away again?

There has to be a problem with 4.7 on XP... All through
this newsgroup this same problem keeps popping up. I've
heard everything from router to firewall checks as
solutions (even though it workes on previous versions).
When a solution is "roll back to previous version" then
there HAS to be a problem with the new one.

I have to keep mine off because my company uses this
(hundreds of users in our groups), and all of them see me
logging on and off all day long every few minutes.
Explaining to them that it is a bug doesn't fly when they
are "on the previous version".

I do appreciate the MVP's assistance on this though, you
all get the same questions over and over again.

Thanks.
Ken
