The point is that Microsoft sells you a product and then
it doesn't work right and then they charge you 35 bucks
for technical support on it. One technical support call
costs as third as much as the entire software package
that doesn;t work in the first place costs. It is about
profits. If an automaker introduced a product and then
did 20 recalls on it they would be sued and have the
gov't on their back but microsoft can do it with
impunity..

Hi Richard,

This isn't exactly true -- not all Microsoft products charge $35 for support, and even those
that do (like XP), you have a number of "free" incidents before you have to pay, and even
then, if the problem is considered to be a problem on Microsoft's side, they won't charge
you.

Jonathan:
Well I appreciate that input. I bought XP last Friday
and I posted my comments to this board repeatedly and you
attempted to help me and I appreciate that too. However,
when I called Microsoft Technical support on the problem
I was charged $35 dollars-I received no free support
sessions and they know my circumstances. They were
adamant about the charge before I could proceed with
technical support. They have still not fixed the
problem. The gentleman I as working with is courteous
and professional but the bottom line is that they did
sell software that is not working propperly on a new
machine, I have gotten no resolution and I received no
incidences of free technical support so I really don't
know what you are talking about in that regard. If there
is a number that provides free technical support I urge
you to post it.

Hi Richard,

See this page:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;en-us;Prodoffer31

First two incidents are free (the phone # is on there as well).
