View Full Version : Deleting a System Restore file

I had a virus (W32/Palyh@MM) sent to me today.

Fortunately I realised that an email from '' was
unlikely to be genuine and a quick update of my virus software proved it to
be infected.

However, I now have an infected file within a ''System Restore'' backup.

Is it possible to delete individual backups, if so can someone point me in
the right direction.

The only method I know is to turn off System Restore completely which would
remove all restore points.

TIA

Steve

No, you cannot selectively delete Restore Points.

Open MY COMPUTER and right-click on your drive. Then select
Properties > Disk Cleanup > More Options > System Restore (Clean Up).

Thanks for the quick reply.

That method offers to delete all but the most recent checkpoint.

As it is the most recent checkpoint which is reported as infected, it looks
like I've no option but to turn off Restore and clear out all of them.
