MSN Messenger strange behaviour.

Another strange thing. After a few days of inability to connect with my
brother in England, everything started working again today. However, after a
few minutes of conversation, he told me his system said I had signed off the
net. We continued talking for several minutes without trouble. Then I tried
a whiteboard message and it was "undeliverable". My brother returned one and
it hung. Then Messenger chirped, rebooted, and asked me to sign in again.
After that I received his message on the whiteboard, but mine to him stayed
undeliverable. All this time we continued talking without trouble!
We are both using MSN Mess 5, he on Win ME dial up, and I am on XP on cable.

Greetings Bob,

Lots of things could've occurred which could have resulted in suddenly being able to connect
to your brother (but that's another issue entirely).

Each Messenger conversation (text-based) has its own connection, so if you get disconnected
from the main server, conversations will still continue going. You could've been
disconnected just randomly, or because of a lack of bandwidth (or many other reasons). Voice
conversations also operate on their own connection (and processor thread) independent of
Messenger.

If you closed your conversation window, then reopened it, and then send your Whiteboard
request, most likely it would've gone through.

Hi Jonathan,

The interesting part was that we had full audio and video all the time, even
while I was supposedly shut down.

Hi Bob,

Although realistically this shouldn't happen, sometimes it does, for example if Messenger
crashes (and you're at the "sorry for the inconvenience screen"), voice/video will continue
operating until Messenger's process is actually completely closed.
