Hi,

I've never used a tech support newsgroup before, so please
bear with me.

I am now the proud owner of a Dell (4550 or is it 5440? I
always forget)(?) ,running Win XP. I have noticed that
after awhile, the files I try to d/l copy the type and file
extensions of recent programs I have been running on my
harddrive. For example, I've been working with Excel... for
awhile, everytime I tried to d/l something, the
exe.extension became exe.db or gif.db, or whatever... I
started messing around with "open as" or "save as", and
now, it insists upon using PaintShoppe Pro (which I never
use; it was a 'trial" bundled on my system, not even sure I
can get rid of it!). So anyway, now the files I try to d/l
are saved as: "blahblah.exe.jbf" (or something like that).

The point is, I cannot open any of these files, and need to
finally shove them in the recycle bin.

Does anyone know how to fix this so I can do NORMAL
downloads, again? I once mentioned it to a Dell
representative in the course of discussing another problem,
and she said she'd need to "research it and get back to me"
(she never did).

I appreciate any help I can get; please email me at above
address, thanks!

L.

PS. If anyone knows about merging files in Excel, please
also write me; I am having problems with that, too!
