I cannot automatically or manually install Encarta.
The installation simply disappears from the screen and
stops after I have defined a destination and checked the
boxes for installation. What I cannot check is the box
that reads "shared files". That box is shades and I
cannot change it.
Any advice would be helpful

I can't give you any direct advice about your problem, but there's also
another bug in Encarta potential users should be aware of. When I installed
Encarta on my new machine, I went to the website to update the files, I&
found that the update download was a whopping 7 Meg. To complicate things,
the updates are all-or-nothing, not separate files, so you have to update
the whole thing. The reason I point this out is that dialup users like
myself may have real problems with downloads of this size, & it's been my
experience that the Encarta downloads are prone to kicking you off during
the update. Just a word to the wise.
