Media pool

I simply just want to back-up data to a media (CD) using
my recorder. I'm trying to configure using removable
storage BY USING THE CHECKLIST CONFIGURE GUIDELINES, I
amt the step " Move sufficient media to a free media
pool." Looking at my existing media pool in computer
management, I see my recorder located in the import media
pool. However I am adviced to move media from import
media pools to free media pools or application media
pools so applications can use them. DO THEY MEAN MOVING
or copying my recorder to let say application media pool
(Backup)so I can use the Backup utility effectively?
Perhaps you can enlighten me a bit on removable storage
and media pool. thanks
